Nona

Nona’

‘Nona’, the socio-political satirical play, which is set against the modern Indian social fabric of hypocrisy and massive lies is a collective venture of a bunch of amateur performers who believed in the immense scope of rural theatre in social criticism and is a saga of  their resistance against the shrinking spaces for expression.

Fascism, and Pseudo-Nationalism, was just some terms which were so far from us but are now on our doorsteps, knocking at the door. That is the immediate compulsion behind the play Nona which discusses Casteism and Nationalism in a rustic scenario, to be more precise, in a rustic courtyard.

The realization, that a Nation and its People has an unwritten language of fraternity, consensus, and collectivism beyond the map and its borders that someone draws and the preplanned National Anthem is the stimulus behind the play. The actors and technicians are absolutely rural people and a whole hamlet is behind this play. Along with the human folk, even hens and other domestic animals become characters in the play.

The apprehension that the ground we stand on and even the knowledge that we accumulated are wobbly is reflecting even in the way the set is designed. As theatre is a progressing medium, Avant-garde forms and techniques are employed. The play offers entertainment and is rebellious and the spectacle will communicate with every sort of spectators. Excessive effort has been taken to accomplish the passion the theme of the play deals with and the political responsibility, within the limitations of a rural theatre.

Absolutely believe that the characters and the situations will follow you home and will leave an indelible mark on your conscious and unconscious life.
